Good morning! I do respite care for several families with children on the spectrum and have been part of their families for several years. I’ve earned an M.Ed. in Educational Psychology (school counsellor) and an ABA (RBT) certificate, and I'm currently pursuing a second degree in Special Education at UVA. I have cared for a 6-year-old for the past 3 years and am a good fit for a family seeking occasional care or a weekend break. I also provide weekend respite care for a 10-year-old and occasionally take him to the playground, the pool, Urban Air, horseback riding, or over weekends to give the family a break and de-escalate the tense home environment. I recently completed a practicum with students with special needs in third and fourth grades at Stafford Elementary School. I have a Commercial Driver’s License with a school bus endorsement (special needs) and am certified in First Aid, Trauma, CPR, and AED for infants and children. I am the father of a special needs child who is now a successful adult, and I've had two careers: one at NBC Television, where you might know the name Bob Wright, a past CEO and founder of Autism International (he has a grandchild on the spectrum), and the other as a Microsoft consultant. My ‘gift’ is that I am an active senior who wholeheartedly accepts these children for who they are, not where some think they should be. Outside activities with an experienced care provider, rather than a parent, are excellent environments for learning, for developing independence, and practicing acceptable social behaviors. I am a retired Microsoft tech guy who got involved in the Autistic community by volunteering with Big Brothers/Big Sisters. I can schedule a video Zoom introduction, prior to meeting in person. A FACEBOOK POST OF FREDRICKSBURG PARENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN “Hello all! I am in the Navy and, luckily, receive Respite Care services through EFMP. Our respite care provider is Gary Masters. He has been in our family’s lives for over a year now and is a fantastic human. I write this post because he has the time and is looking to help another family, either through respite care or if you need a trusted sitter for your autistic kiddo. Gary is a retired Microsoft tech guy who started getting involved in the Autistic community by volunteering with Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He completed his BCBA (ABA) training and is currently finishing his masters in Special Education. He was vetted to be our respite care provider.

Gary has been a blessing with my two kiddos (10f and 11m) my son has special needs and is on the autism spectrum and Gary has been nothing short of fantastic with both my kids. He makes sure they are taken care of and even does the dishes if he sees any left over for me. Don’t hesitate to hire him, you will not regret it!

We had a wonderful experience with Lelia. She is dependable, professional, and incredibly caring. She cared for my great grandmother with so much thought and attention. She even meal prepped for her! She was patient and respectful and very clean. I feel complete peace of mind when I know she is there. I would highly recommend her to any family looking for someone reliable and compassionate.

I am ambitious and creative but disciplined and hardworking. I absolutely love working with children and planning such fun activities while we wait for you to come home! One thing about me that sets me apart from others is that I will not just sit your child in front of the TV. Everyday will be fun filled and something to look forward too!

Hi! My name is Kayla Hoodless. I am 19 years old, and I just finished my sophomore year as a college student at Radford University. I babysat for many families all throughout middle school and high school, and I would love to go back to babysitting during the summers that I am home from school. I love kids of all ages, and I think babysitting is such a rewarding job. I can cook, clean, drive, assist with pet care, and I am also CPR and First Aid certified. I am also Red Cross certified, and have taught many kids how to swim. I am very patient, and I love building a connection with the families and children that I babysit for. I am available every day and all hours of the week! I want to work hard all summer to start paying off my college loans, and to help support my parents and siblings.

I’m Claire, and I am currently working as a nanny but unfortunately my time will be ending In September of 2022 since the child I care for will be starting pre school. A little bit about me, I am 20 years old, I worked at a daycare before I decided to pursue my nanny career for a year. I graduated from Patrick Henry high school in 2019. I have s very outgoing and bubbly personality. I am always looking for super fun and educational adventures with the children I care for! I love going on walks and being outside. I would like to work for a family that is laid back and works away from home as it makes it easier on me to care for the child. It will also be easier for the child to get to know me and for me to get to know them! I hope you can consider me and if not I wish you the best on your nanny hunt!!

My name is Margaret! I am a patient, respectful, dependable and engaging person. I have wanted to work with young children since a young age, having always truly enjoyed caring for them. I did some studies to be a Kindergarten/Elementary school teacher in the UK however over the duration of the course I realized that my passion is to care and provide for children rather than to teach. This lead to the change into nannying. I was a full time nanny for 6 years, both as a nanny to an individual family as well as participating in nanny shares and working for 2 families together. I have worked with children from infant (3 months) to 10 years old. Additionally I have experience in a daycare setting and have worked with up to 8 children at once. I always work with the aim of providing optimal care which nurtures children physically, socially, emotionally and developmentally. I am a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant which allows for additional perspective into gross motor development.

I believe caring for children is some of the most important work there is. Kids deserve to feel safe, heard, and encouraged to grow into who they’re meant to be—and I take pride in being someone families can trust with that responsibility. Being around children brings me so much joy, and I naturally connect with them through patience, creativity, and a nurturing approach. I have several years of hands-on experience working with children of all ages. Since 2017, I’ve taught ballet to 4–6-year-olds, which has given me a strong foundation in patience, structure, and making learning fun. I also spent a year working in a childcare setting, caring for children from as young as 8 weeks old through pre-K, so I’m very comfortable with everything from infant care to keeping older kids engaged and active. I am CPR and Basic Life Support certified, and safety is always my top priority. I’m currently in college studying nutrition and dietetics, with plans to become a lactation consultant. Growing up with a mother who is a midwife gave me a deep respect for women’s health, early childhood development, and the importance of supportive, attentive care from the very beginning of life. What sets me apart is that I don’t just “watch” children—I actively engage with them, teach them, and support their development in a positive and loving way. Whether it’s helping with routines, encouraging creativity, or simply being a calm and dependable presence, I’m committed to creating a safe, happy environment for your child.

Hi, I’m Megan! I’m a dedicated and experienced nanny with over 10 years of hands-on childcare experience. I’m also a proud mom to an 8-year-old son and a 5-year-old daughter, which has strengthened my nurturing, patient, and organized approach to caring for children. My childcare journey began in high school as a preschool assistant, followed by several years as a daycare teacher. I have extensive experience caring for infants, toddlers, and school-aged children. I am CPR and First Aid certified and maintain my certifications through annual recertification. I’m passionate about providing a safe, structured, and loving environment where children can learn, grow, and feel supported. I look forward to becoming a trusted part of your family’s care team.
