Hi! My name is Winsome! I absolutely lovee all animals! In freshman year of high school I started attending service dog training class at my school. That changed my life in a way I will always remember. The teacher even told my mom after that “I can get dogs to do things she can’t get them to do”. First year students weren’t even allowed to have dogs but I was one of two first years chosen to be allowed to be a puppy raiser. Changed my world for the better! Before high school I have honestly been around dogs my whole life because I’ve loved them my whole life. When I was younger in elementary school, my family and I lived in a small community with a church, elementary school & high school and a small group of homes. During the summer months, all the families would head up to the camp grounds & stay up there for the summer. Well, my amazing family would stay on the grounds and take care of all the animals and house sit for all the families that lived there! That really was a magickal time for me. We would take some of the dogs to the dog park and just have some fun! I’ve worked with two different service dog organizations throughout my high school career. I’ve unfortunately experienced some trauma in my young live and I’ve noticed that animals have been a main staple in my survival to this point. They have kept me alive. <3 I believe in treating animals and others with kindness and being compassionate. Both of the dogs I currently have I’ve had for many years. To be honest; I don’t like calling animals ‘pets’ I’d much rather call them ‘fur babies’ because that’s what they are! <3 Having someone you can trust with your fur baby is a big deal and something I take very, very seriously. I’ve always wanted my own horse and since I haven’t had my own when I’d go to summer camp I’d sign up every time for horseback riding and even throughout high school I did riding. My high school was an agribusiness focused school and focused on animals a lot; which I loved and the reason I attended. A few weeks into my second semester of junior year I came down with a severe case of Lyme Disease which unfortunately turned chronic and I’ve been focusing on healing the last several years. Even while going through my healing journey I managed to lead my own puppy raiser training class through the organization I was working with at the time in high school for several months :) When I don’t find myself adoring animals, I’m doing artsy stuff, healing, having fun & learning new things.
