So I have had many pets in my life: hamsters, birds, fish, and cats. I raised one cat from 1 month old until a full grown adult. I have never had a dog. One thing I've noticed about animals: most seem to like me, they don't find me threatening. I can usually earn the trust of an animal, and create a friendship. When I interact with an animal, I do not look down at them with a superiority complex - I see them as equal (and they respect this 95% of the time). If an animal is not comfortable with my passive interaction it's usually because they are dominating in nature.
I am a good judge of character when it is appropriate and/or necessary to take control of a situation: enforcing rules, safety of pet or others.
