Hello Pet Parents,

I am Laura Davis, a pet lover -- so much that I rescued a young tabby cat from under a car in the Mission, took him in a cab to an animal shelter, visited him every day -- and when his owner did not come forward I helped persuade someone to adopt him.

In the early 90's I adopted a 6-month old kitten from Pets Unlimited in San Francisco, who traveled with me to many places, living to the age of 21. I had another cat who came to my doorstep in Minneapolis and decided to move in, living the good life until she was 18 - - so I must have been doing something right...

I am empathetic to older animals; I've taken care of a 14-year old diabetic cat, giving him pills and insulin shots twice daily, I've also administered liquid medicine.

While I'm a dedicated follower of felines, I have also looked after dogs -- I've walked 2 Pomeranians in tandem, and romped with a rambunctious miniature Australian Shepherd. I frequently look after a Terrier, whose pet parent wrote:

"Laura stayed with our dog Ollie for 3 weeks and was an absolute delight. She sent frequent updates and photos, removing any anxiety we may have otherwise had being away for so long. She's a very special soul, and was able to connect with our little guy, We've had her back a number of times now, and are thankful to have a caring and reliable friend to call when we need to leave town. "

I've taken care of various breeds and temperaments, ranging from Dalmatian to Maltese. In my youth I had a guinea pig, so I am comfortable with small mammals.

And I have recently looked after 9 chickens -- that was a new experience! -- in the same household as a large dog and 4 cats, 2 of them formerly feral. We all got along well, and I've been asked to return to that home and do it again.

I regularly take care of a dog and cat whose pet parent wrote:
"Laura watched my cat and dog for 2 weeks and took care of my home. She gave me daily updates with pictures so I never had to worry about my
pets. My pets seemed very happy and healthy when I got home. Recommend her very highly!"

As a writer, my time is flexible, and I can give pets lots of attention and affection.
