Leila’s Bio
I am currently self-employed with over 20 years work history in public service. My signature qualities, I have been told, are patience, kindness, intelligence, and good humor. I hope that's true!
We had dogs--golden retriever, beagles, terrier mixes--when I was a child, and I like dogs very much. Each one has his or her own personality, as every animal lover knows, and most dogs are genuine, spontaneous, playful, affectionate, smart, and occasionally silly (which is always entertaining!). Because I rent, I don't have a dog right now, though that doesn't keep me from checking the Basenji rescue web site on a regular basis. I will retire at some point in the near future, and look for a home that will allow canines. Then, when a rescue who needs me comes along, I hope to go pick up my new friend--who will have to tolerate felines, because (drum-roll):
In the meantime, I have--yep, you will call me crazy, I'm sure--six cats. I can't stand to see an animal go without a home, and when friends die or their circumstances sour, I find it hard to say no. Even with seven rooms, a long hallway, and a long, netted-in balcony, we are maxed out for territory. So next time, in order to keep the peace, I'll have to find another to adopt the kitty that gets left behind. (Please let me know if you're up for another cat. ;-))
I have nursed several animals through some minor as well as life-threatening illnesses (pyothorax, cryptococcosis), so I am familiar with administering pills, liquids, and topical treatments to both dogs and cats. If your pet enjoys being brushed, we will get along splendidly. Litter boxes are numerous around here, and frequently cleaned; of course even small dogs have to get out for a walk at least twice a day. For the dog's comfort, three times per day is preferable, but I understand that is not always possible.
Before accepting any stint of employment, I would insist upon meeting you and your pet(s) to be sure that our relationships will be harmonious, and that all instructions are recorded and mutually understood. I have references from long-time San Diego residents and former supervisors, as I have lived and worked in the city for almost 36 years.
