I own a dog myself and I've been taking care of him as if he's a little brother to me. I've always respected and loved pets because they are just so fun and understanding to be with. Spending genuine time with pets is a stress reliever for me and it pulls me away from reality for bit to a more peaceful environment.
As for cleaning up after the pets, it is the same as if you were to take care a child. I believe it prepares you for an actual child of your own, which is a very accessible way of learning. Most importantly, everywhere I go with pets, I always come prepare because I get disgusted for leaving their mess behind.
