I grew up on a farm in Northeastern Colorado. From the time I was born, it was instilled in my heart and mind that animals are not pets, but instead they are a part of the family. We always had a family dog and a few cats in our home. At the age of 10, I began making powerpoint to convince my parents that I needed a dog to call my own. Finally, at 16 all of my determination paid off.
I rescued a puppy of around 3 months of age from a blizzard where her previous owner had abandoned the females on the side of a road in the middle of nowhere. I woke up every 3 hours in the middle of the night to take her outside, even if I had school the next day, and she was fully house trained in less than two months. My Bella is the love of my life, but she is currently living at home with my parents due to. me living in the dorms.
My love for dogs and other animals is very evident in my life. Soon after adopting Bella families from my town started requesting me to walk their dogs and check in on their other pets while they were away.
I have been a babysitter for as long as I can remember, and I use the same philosophy when taking care of pets as I do when taking care of children: Love and compassion are the most important rules to guide with and respect and obedience will be returned.
