I love working with animals, especially dogs. Ever since I was 15 I have been highly involved in working with dogs and improving the relationship between dog and owner/potential owner. My pitbull is a great breed ambassador, she is a Canine Good Citizen and volunteers with me at assisted living facilities. She can make even the most devoted cat lover fall in love with her. My anatolian shepherd was rescued off the streets of LA, and although I have been able to teach him to accept and be calm around new people, too much action makes him jumpy and due to his trauma will never be fit for volunteer work, although he makes a great pillow for me. One of my strongest qualities is being able to adapt to the dogs needs, seeing when they need boundaries or affection, when to ask more from them and when they have no more to give. I am a true believer in a tired dog is a good dog. On all but the ugliest of days, me and my dogs go for a six mile walk. After that I still have plenty of energy, but my dogs, not so much. Although we don't walk in hail, down pour/freezing rain, we find other activities to burn off energy, specifically training exercises and running up and down the stairs (myself doing household activities as well). Consistency is key, along with trust and a strong relationship, which is built through hardwork from both parties.
