I had an event that I was going to and posted an ad specifically looking for someone on that date (and likely others to follow). I had a phone interview with Jordan that went great. Had her come to my home for an in-person interview so she could meet my son (which I paid her for) which also went very well. My initial job ad was posted for $13/hr. Jordan asked for $18/hr (for one 20-month old boy), which was out of my price range, but I agreed to it because I thought there was good chemistry between her and my son. I hired her, and also asked her to come once more before my event for 4 hours just to make sure everyone was comfortable.

The day of my event, I received a text 1 hour and 15 minutes before we were scheduled to leave from Jordan to cancel for the night with the excuse of "car trouble". I offered to uber her to my house and back home at the end of the night at MY cost. She still declined. At that point, it seemed to me tat "car trouble" was just a cover for something else.

Jordan seemed like a very nice person to me, but I found canceling so last minute with such a generic reason to be very unprofessional, and selfish. If she did not think she were a good fit for my family, that would have been ok, but honesty works a lot better. I would just caution anyone in the future hiring her that she seems unreliable.
