My two kitty boys (11 years) are my kids and my life. I adopted my two boys when living in Taiwan, they are TNR rescues and of course I brought them with me when I relocated to Daytona Beach. I also brought my foster fur step-chiId; my step-daughter adopted a kitten when she visited us in Taiwan, but couldn't bring him back at the time. Raising a kitten with two adult cats was certainly entertaining and educational!
I have dealt with various health issues like ear infections, diarrhea and the life threatening FLUTD, so I know which signs of illness to look for. I also know that some kitties are high strung and stress can lead to signs of illness.
I have cat-sat for my friends in Taiwan and understand that when their parent is away kitties can become very stressed and scared. Making sure that they have access to food, clean water and a clean litter box is necessary, but I also know that some kitties need more reassurance. This can be given by the cat sitter through play time, grooming and petting and sometimes they just want their space. I have learned to "read" cat body language so I know when to give love and attention, and when to back off and give them space. There are times when all they need is their established routine and a calming presence. One of my friend's cats surprised her in that she usually hid from cat sitters. I took the time to coax her out of her hiding spot and we became friends by the time my friend returned!
I have taken my friend's cats to the vet on occasion, so I am prepared to take care of this part of the job, too, if necessary or applicable.
I know I would only want my boys taken care of by someone who would treat them as well as I do. I will take excellent care of your cats so that you can have a worry-free trip.
