Cara’s Bio

I graduated from Virginia Tech this last spring with a double degree in both Animal Sciences and Biological Sciences. I then moved to Chicago for a research position with Northwestern University. My apartment is located in Streeterville. I have been surrounded by animals my entire life and now that I have moved here, I am looking for a side job that will fill that void!

I have pet sat for various families starting back 13 years ago when I was only in 5th grade. I have lots of experience watching various species, mostly cats and dogs, but also exotics such as birds. Last summer, I was hired for three months by someone who needed their cat watched while he was away out of the country. I have plenty of experience giving animals medication as both his cat and another client's dog required daily eye drops. Furthermore, during my senior year of college, my neighbor got a rescue Pitbull dog who was very animal aggressive, but the sweetest dog in the world. My neighbor was going to California for the holidays, so I offered to take care of his dog over the Christmas holidays. Though he is animal aggressive and strong, I was able to help control him on walks and when other animals were nearby. My cat who recently passed away due to congestive heart failure required medication given to her twice daily.

Being a companion animal emphasis within my Animal Science degree, I have knowledge of animal behavior and normal characteristics, and have also been taught how to properly administer medication to pets, and have been cat/dog CPR certified. Furthermore, I've worked for two different veterinary clinics for 3 years, where some of my responsibilities included: walking dogs (some of which were in post-operative condition), providing proper nutrition, administering medications and injections, among many others. I have experience taking care of animals with various issues and medical needs. I have no allergies and am willing to give your pet the love and attention they deserve and need!

I pride myself on being extremely responsible, genuine, and trustworthy. I would be more than grateful to be given the opportunity to help out watching your pet and treating him/her as if they were my own while you're away.

Please feel free to contact me, I would be more than happy to answer any additional questions or concerns you may have, along with provide any references upon your request. I hope to hear from you soon!

Cara was great when we met and I truly believe she tries her best and really loves animals. However, during the last visit Cara did for my puppy, we had two pretty big issues and I won't be using Cara again.

1. I booked an hour and paid ahead of time for that hour. I checked my puppy cam 10 min before the hour was up and my puppy was already sleeping which means Cara left more than 10 min. When I pay for an hour, I expect an hour. When I reached out about this, I received an excuse that she had friends in town, however was not offered any money back for short-changing the visit. Additionally, when a service is paid for and agreed upon, if you cannot fulfill the agreement, then I should have been told prior so I could make other arrangements. If I hadn't had the puppy cam, I wouldn't even had known she left early.

2. I had been with my puppy all day as I worked from home and she had been fine. She was at the vet for a wellness exam the night prior and she was 100% healthy. During the visit, Cara text me that my puppy had developed a limp. I don't live in a place with stairs, my puppy cannot jump onto the couch yet and she provided no explanation as to how this may have happened. Puppies don't just get limps. Something had to happen. Now, I want to say I am 100% sure she would never hurt my puppy and that it was some sort of accident like she fell off the couch or something, however the fact that she didn't know how this happened makes me concerned that she wasn't really paying attention which again is what I paid for.

I would not recommend Cara due to the lack of professionalism and the loss of trust after this visit. Pets are like family, and it's important that we can trust whomever we bring into our home. After leaving early, and a mysterious limp, I lost all trust that Cara was truly looking out for my dog's best interests vs. just making a buck on the side.
