Hi I’m Jonathan Hart. I’m 21 years old and a certified Veterinary Assistant.
From Saturday 3/3/18 to Saturday 6/2/18 I went to Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, MA (only on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1500) to take the Veterinary Assistant Certification class. I took the exam and passed on Saturday 6/2/18. By mail in July, I received the certificate.
I originally wanted to work at PETCO but they told me I needed to have a Vet. Assistant Certificate.
After I completed the class, I realized I could work at an actual Vet. Clinic or animal shelter or something else.
My neighbors/friends the Chevalier family have a 10.5 year old Yellow Lab named Lily who I’ve been walking all year long since August 2017. In May 2018, I got to finally dog sit Lily for a week while they were on vacation. And again in June 2018 for 2 days while they were in Florida. I would walk Lily in the morning when we first get up, feed and give her medicine. Wait about 20 minutes before another walk. Spend time with her as much as possible. Third walk in the afternoon. Feed her dinner then wait 20 minutes for another walk. And just right before bed, either take her for another walk or let her out in the yard.
I also cut Lily’s nails every 6 weeks to a month. I usually get paid $10 to do it.
I would do the same except for dog sit my other neighbors the Tietz Yellow Lab mix named Luna. They always take Luna with them when they go on vacation.
I genuinely love animals. A lot. Especially dogs and cats. I have a passion for helping and taking care of animals. I don’t like seeing dogs or cats or any animal in any type of pain especially if they’ve been abused. That’s just absolutely wrong.
My heart lies with dog walking and sitting or cat sitting or volunteering at an animal shelter/rescue place.
I’ve been told I did a good job with Lily and most likely if they (the Chevalier family) go on vacation again or need a sitter, they can count on me. I enjoy it. It’s relaxing and almost like therapy for me.
I am looking to put my Veterinary Assistant Certificate in good use either by becoming a dog walker and sitter for another people then just my neighbors or working at an animal shelter/rescue place.
