I have owned dogs and/or cats my entire life. I am 46, have no children, so my pets are as important to me as a child is to a parent. And yours would be too, I don't know any other way to treat them! I recently lost my last rescue dog (a pit bull sweetheart named Chase), and I know it would very therapeutic for me to be with animals and care for them, love them, and cherish the love they always return. They seem to sense that in me, and warm up to me very quickly!
I volunteered in a doggy/kitty day care containing both privately owned as well as rescue animals. I am quick to understand each individual personality and can adjust my behavior accordingly. From the shy ones that just like to be held to the most dominant one who thinks he or she is boss. I also trained all of my dogs, and would be glad to do the same with your dog, if desired - who doesn't love a dog that plays dead, lol!
