While I have not worked as a "professional" pet sitter, I have a great deal of experience as a pet sitter. While completing a master's thesis in marine science, I worked at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), where I gained experience working with marine mammals and other marine animals. I also became the "go to pet sitter" at MBARI due to word of mouth from fellow employees, so I ended up pet sitting for numerous employees there over the last 4 years. MBARI is located on a beach and within a marine protected area. Due to my conservation ecology background and location relative to the beach, I actively participated in numerous wildlife rescues, included pelicans and sea lions. Prior to this, I worked as a wildlife and natural history tour guide in the Monterey Bay (CA), where I interacted closely with marine mammals and birds, and promoted conservation for these animals. In addition to growing up with pets, the last four homes I lived in had numerous pets and I would frequently pet sit for my roommates while they were out of town. My last roommate had two greyhounds that I walked simultaneously every day. Many times I have offered to start walking my roommates' dogs daily because I noticed they wern't getting the exercise they needed regularly and felt bad for them. I believe my empathy level makes me a great pet sitter because I am truly concerned for their well being and want to make sure animals are getting everything they need to be happy and healthy. My love for animals led me to look for a pet sitting job once I finished my studies and returned back home to Oklahoma.
