I have had my own pet sitting business for almost 3 years now. I have my own cards as well as several reputable references. The way that my services work are, I go to the person's home and care for the pets. My rates are based on first and foremost, distance as well as the number of animals. During the visit,  I will feed, play, walk, let out, give medication, bring mail in, take trash out if need be on a certain day, and turn light(s) on if need be.
