I've had three dogs (all bratty toy poodles). We recently just got our third who is a very small puppy. We've been training her to not pee on carpets and I taught her how to sit. I prefer bigger dogs or dogs who like to run around, but I don't mind taking care of pets who just want to laze around.
As for cats, I dealt with a homeless cat and her kittens for 4 months once. This is when I started to gain an appreciation for cats. I worked with Cats on Commerce for a bit (nothing too technical- just helping out with boarding). My family has 2 cats and I love them to death. I can deal with cats who hiss and cats who scratch- it's not really a big deal for me.
