I am a natural born caregiver. Whether it be caring for the planet, animals, the elderly, or children, I am always putting myself full heartedly into providing for those around me. Having grown up in the beautiful mountains of Southwest Colorado, I moved to Flagstaff just over a year ago to attend Northern Arizona University. I started off my college career as an Early Childhood Education and Comparative Cultural Studies major but have since switched to Environmental Sustainability Studies with a minor in Spanish. I am a lover of the outdoors, reading, music, theatre, travel, and animals, and am always looking for opportunities to expand my views of the world. I began working with children when I was only a child myself, about twelve years old, babysitting for family friends. As a babysitter, I have cared for children ages 4 months to 13 years, watching up to six children at Read more once. Formally, I have worked as an intern at the Silverton Summer Youth Program - theatre program in my hometown for three years, and more recently as an assistant teacher at the Silverton Family Learning Center. As an assistant teacher at SFLC, I worked both individually and with other teachers, caring for children 6 weeks to 6 years with up to 12 children at a time. Some responsibilities included supervising and preparing activities, supervising play time, problem intervention, food preparation, nap time, and daily cleanup. This position has greatly increased my confidence as a childcare profession as well as my abilities to care for children, helping me to grow in my patience, teaching skills, problem-solving abilities, knowledge of child development, as well as my love of working with children. Additionally, it has helped me to develop my philosophy as a childcare professional: providing a safe, loving environment where every child has the ability to grow, learn and express themselves fully.
