Please allow me to introduce myself! My name is Mariko, and I grew up in a large city in Japan. I visited the US for the first time when I was a late teen, and enjoyed it so much that I returned for good as an adult more than 20 years ago. One interesting aspect of my childhood was that I was growing up with an aunt who was completely blind. She was amazingly active and independent, but I realized at a young age that I was very comfortable in the role of occasional assistant and caregiver. During my life I have gained many years of experience in this role. For example, I worked for many years in childcare, working both privately and for several years at an elementary school in Oakland. I have a gentle, patient, playful, and loving nature, and especially enjoyed this work because with young children Read more everyday is different and new. I found it both amazing and gratifying to be part of a child's life, and watch them learn and grow as a person. I'm an outgoing person, and it was tremendous fun thinking up activities that they might find stimulating and enjoyable. I've also had many experiences being helpful as a Japanese translator and tutor (with both children and adults), This has been very rewarding too. I have the Japanese Language Instructor Certificate. I'm able to teach Japanese, assist with Japanese homework assignments, and explain Japanese culture and customs. In many of these experiences, I've also helped with all manner of light chores, including cooking and simple house care (as my strength would allow). As I've grown older, I've begun to include senior care in my work, and already have more than 2 years experience with this. I'm a very responsible person, and a careful driver, and can easily assist with activities at home and with outings for appointments, shopping, or anything else. I was glad to be able to help my husband when he sadly passed away from cancer, and to be of assistance to both my parents who passed away in Japan not long ago. Please feel free to talk to me about any caretaking needs you may have, and we can discuss whether I might be a "good fit" as your helper. I’d be happy to provide references as well as meet or chat on the phone. I look forward to hearing from you!
