Dear Sittercity, My name is Katelyn Hopkins and I’m a 27 year old female originally from Florida. Growing up, my mom ran a nanny business for children ages newborn to 7 yrs which I worked for in shifts along with two of my sisters, often teaching children in sign language, speaking, walking, reading, potty training, creative play, writing, and drawing. By the age of 14 years old, I was able to secure my own job working as a full time nanny for a family of three children under the age of 5. I also cared for many children of various ages as a part time babysitter in the evenings throughout my life. I always look on those times with fondness and I consider it a great honor to be part of a child’s life as they develop. The moments of first steps, first words, healthy naps, solved math problems, and Read more successful sharing with a sibling are treasured in my heart as big victories. In 2012 I began my career as a cardiovascular specialist, however in 2016 I left the United States with my husband to serve as a Christian missionary in Asia. During my time there, I took on many part time jobs, several of which were tutoring children between the ages of 4-13 years several times a week. While the lessons primarily consisted of English tutoring, I also taught biology, literature, and geography. It was a wonderful cultural exchange and learning experience for both myself and my students. Upon returning to the United States this month, I have found it difficult to be accepted by my previous medical career as I have been away from the field for nearly three years.
