Hello, My name is Diana Ortiz and I have been a caregiver/ nanny for over 10 years now. I started baby sitting while I was attending high school because I have always enjoyed taking care of babies, toddlers, and kids. Once I started, I fell in love with it since I felt like I was being paid to do something that came so naturally to me having helped my parents raise my 3 younger siblings. Once in college, I became a live in home nanny for two children ages newborn and 4 years old. I was with that family for almost 4 years and would have continued for much longer had they not moved out of state while I was still in college. The next family I worked with was a family of 3 kids, oldest sister (6 years old), and twins (a boy and girl age 4 years old). Read more I was with them for another 4 years until the eldest daughter was old enough for a tutoring program and the younger kids were well potty trained to stay with their grand parents. Some duties while working with these families including making breakfast, making sure kids were bathed and clean to start the day, taking kids to school, picking up kids from school, taking kids to extra curricular activities (tutoring, dance, soccer practice, basketball practice, piano classes, play dates, etc....). Other duties were making lunches, some dinner meal prep, light house keeping, homework help, laundry, and helping kids get ready for bed time. During vacation time, I would set up play dates for each kid, take the kids to the park, make a picnic with the kids, do arts and crafts together, or play indoor games with board games, or having some of their friends come over for a play date. I still keep in touch with both families since they are comfortable with me keeping in touch and because the kids and I form a bond in which I would not like to cause any sort or abandonment trauma to the kids. I always offer to stay in touch because I see myself as an older sister to the kids but the ultimate decision is made by the parents. My current location is in North Dakota but I have lived in California most of my life and I’m in transit to move to Oregon within the next couple of days. The plan is to make Oregon my home for at least the next 10+ years so I am looking to work with a family or a couple families for the longer run.
