Hello there, My childcare days began in highschool when I took the babysitting course and watched over two children ages 12 and 14 when I was a sophomore in Highschool. I was responsible for these children from 9-5 every week day during the summer. We typically would spend the day doing crafts, going for bike rides, or swimming in the pool. One child was much more introverted then the other so I worked with each personality. At age 19 I began working at a YMCA summer camp in the Adirondack mountains counseling children. That was a lot of fun because we were able to take advantage of hiking and waterfront activities. At the time I received my First Aid, and Lifeguard training. I was certified as a "belayer" for the climbing tower as well and helped kids learn how to climb. I also took them out sailing on sunfish sailboats. Read more At 24 I became certified as a Youth and Family Developmental Specialist with Hillside Family of Agencies. I took care of a cottage full of deaf children who no longer had parents to care for them and all of which had behavioral problems and some with physical disabilities such as Scleroderma . I learned sign language to communicate with them. Since my days at Hillside I have gone back to caring for kids on occasion when their parents need a sitter. When I babysit, with your permission of course, there will be activities and trips out doors. Although televisions and computers have their place, they will not be used in excess. I believe every child needs exercise and time outside to be healthy.
