I have participated in volunteer and work experiences that provided me with experience in working with children of all ages. Through working with young children at my local church, volunteering in after-school programs in junior high and high school, and gaining leadership positions during my time in college so far, I have gained proficient experience working with children and students of all ages, from infants to college freshman. Additionally, I have been babysitting children from infant age to young teenagers for about 9 years now. Throughout these leadership and volunteer experiences, I gained responsibility and professional skills through being responsible for the safety and health of many different age groups. During my position at Baseline Community Church, I was responsible for the safety, care, and planning of enjoyable activities for young infants, kindergarten-age children, as well as elementary and junior high age students. While serving as the Vice President of Read more my theater department in high school, I gained experience recruiting volunteer involvement among my peers and overseeing the maintenance of responsible and productive service activities. Finally, through working as a Resident Advisor this year at Azusa Pacific University, I have learned how to develop responsible and effective disciplinary skills to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all 28 of my residents as well as that of the 300 students in the living area as a whole. In each position, I learned how to effectively engage with each age group and develop programming that responds to their specific interests and abilities. These experiences developed my professional and interpersonal skills by allowing me opportunities to learn about child and adolescent development, mental health training and counseling referral awareness, working effectively on a team, time management and task delegation, creating effective communication and promotional strategies, as well as developing my administrative skills.
