Greetings! My name is Genevieve and I'm an experienced child care professional. I've nannied and babysat for several families over the past 8 years as well as have worked as a camp counselor at three different summer camps (Sarah's Science, Downtown Oakland YMCA, and Monkey Business Camp), and have worked as a student worker in a small Montessori school for the past four years. Additionally, I've been an active volunteer with the Mosaic Project, a social justice education centered outdoor school for fourth and fifth graders, since high school as well as have been rehired with Monkey Business camp four times over the past two years, the last one being an assistant director position and the first one being a counselor at their PreK camp. I am a senior in college in central New York, majoring in Political Science with a double minor in women's and gender studies and religious Read more studies. I am currently taking a semester off from college since I am a semester ahead in my degree and can afford the time off. I am in the bay area from now until late January and then again in mid May. My approach to childcare revolves around fun, educational experiences- I love to read aloud, do arts and crafts projects, cooking projects, and create adventures. As for my approach to discipline, I believe in a kind and loving energy coupled with a firm stance, I often use questions for understanding the issue as well as for illustrating empathy and understanding of why any given action would not be okay by the child. I am also a strong believer in I-messages for communication and the building of an emotional word bank with kids. I have traditionally had a very good track record with classroom management and relationships with the children I care for.
