Growing up I have always been drawn to working with youth and care giving. I have extensive experience in the care giving field and find joy in getting to know different kinds of families. My first care giving experience was at the age of 15, I worked through a community based after school program in Brooklyn, New York. The program, Center For Family Life, taught me the ways to connect with children through art work and gave me the skills to be compassionate and patient with a child that comes from any background. In addition, I worked my senior year with Kim's Kids. Similar to CFL I was in charge of creating program to foster emotional support for kids, as well assisting them with whatever curriculum they were struggling with in class. My experience in care giving also includes multiple babysitting jobs. I have been a babysitter primarily for two Read more families. For the Lorenzo family my duties included picking up their child of 5 years old from after school. I would then take transportation back to their home and cook dinner for Melody. We would spend time on getting her homework done and after we would spend time playing dress up games or singing karaoke. The Lorenzo also had a dog which I would take out for walks and feed before they arrived from work. The second family I was a caregiver for was the Wickers. My duties included feeding, bathing and putting Noah and Olivia to sleep before the parents arrived from a night out. The children were ages 2 and 3. I was a babysitter for the wickers family for 3 years and I still currently babysit for the Lorenzo family any time that I am back in the New York area. My experience babysitting for both of these families was on of the best I've had in my entire life. Seeing the children grow and the way they accepted me into their homes warmed my heart. Having the honor to witness youth growing and coming into their own is one of the most rewarding things for me. That is why I love the care giving field tremendously.
