Hello! My name is Katie, and I'm an experienced babysitter, ESL tutor, and teacher's aide for elementary and middle school children. I've worked with kids as an occasional babysitter since 2017, and in 2022 I started my first regular in-home tutoring position with 3 children aged 6 to 11. I really loved being a private tutor, especially because it allowed me plenty of opportunities to connect with my tutees and get to know their individual interests, needs, and learning styles. My day-to-day duties included holding English conversation practice with students, helping my tutees complete their homework, creating tailored supplementary assignments, and supervising them while their parents were away. (As my clients were usually out for multiple hours during my shifts, I was responsible for providing basic care for their children as well (such as preparing snacks, meals, extra activities, and so on.)) After graduating from university, I moved to Hiroshima, Read more Japan to be an assistant English teacher in public k-through-9 schools on the JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) Program. This position gave me the opportunity to work with many children with diverse needs, from special support students to gifted ones seeking challenges. While my primary job was to lead and support English lessons, I spent a lot of my time supporting teachers in the elementary school classrooms. The most valuable skill I honed there was the ability to sit with my kids, listen to them, and encourage their individual strengths and talents by showing authentic interest and pride in their efforts. I believe that two keys to working well with children are empathy and enthusiasm, and these are the core principles that I bring to the table as an in-home tutoring and childcare professional. I am currently available for sitter/nanny work as well as in-home tutoring, with particular expereince working with children between grades 1 and 9.
