I was a nanny for two elementary-aged children for 2 years and personal assistant for the parents of household. My responsibilities included heavy communication with client and assisting client with all personal needs such as scheduling all personal appointments, housekeeping, meal prep (breakfast, packed lunches, dinner, and snacks), doing laundry, periodically going grocery shopping for the family, taking the family dog on walks, to grooming appointments, changing out its food, etc. as well as caring for the family's two children (one boy, 8 and one girl, 7 at the time of employment). Childcare included picking them up after school, taking them to the park for exercise and activity, transporting them to their softball and basketball games and practices, assisting with homework assignments after school, engaging in their hobbies with them and helping to make positive strides to succeed in their hobbies, cleaning and tidying up their rooms, doing their laundry Read more (wash, dry, and put away), developing and sticking to a routine and established schedule for them to follow on a day-to-day basis, personal outings such as movies, bowling, trampoline park, mini golf, etc. I also have three years experience as a caregiver and staff for developmentally/intellectually disabled adults. I've worked in both government-funded day programs and licensed care facilities. As a Direct Support Professional, I worked with individuals in their homes by providing caregiving support, teaching self-care skills, assisting with daily personal tasks such as bathing, cooking meals, laundry, dressing, continence abilities, administering medications, and overall caring/friendly companionship. Overall, I provided consumers with the best quality care and attention to improve their quality of life in all aspects within their home. In day programs, I was a community inclusion facilitator engaging clients in community integration, job skills, cognitive abilities, social and vocational skills, self-help, teaching them how to utilize community resources, and creating custom individual progress plans to emphasize their individual talents, interests, and goals. A typical day in program would start off with restroom skills and group exercise at a park for 30 mins, then transporting them to their job sites and supervising/assisting them on the job. After their paid work, I would take them to a restaurant of choice to have lunch in a community setting. After lunch would be an activity of choice.
