I have taken multiple opportunities over the course of multiple years to act as a caregiver or mentor to children. In middle school, I babysat two children alongside my mother. For three years (from middle school to high school) I participated in the ballet, The Nutcracker, by my old dance studio Signature Dance Academy. This dance studio consisted of mostly younger kids up to middle school— with a smaller proportion of kids older than that. During the weekly rehearsals and the actual performances, I was constantly surrounded by, interacting with, and cooperating with these young children (many in elementary school). In high school for a few months, at my dance studio, I also acted as an assistant to the dance teacher in classical ballet classes for young children aged 3-6. I recently babysat 5 children along with my friend. Recently, I have also been babysitting a toddler girl who is Read more almost 2 years old. In addition to everything, I am CPR certified, and I am qualified to perform CPR on adults, children, and infants. I have been around younger children throughout many years— especially when I was in the YMCA, ESS, and ASES (after school/summer child care programs) and my old dance studio. I enjoyed playing and talking with the younger children as well as friends my own age. I genuinely enjoy being there for children, and letting them feel heard and cared for. I like asking them about their interests and listening to them explain to me things about their lives. Each child is precious in their own way, and I like to appreciate my time with them whenever I get the chance. I am good at this because I like to have fun with kids while following any rules that are set. I do not see childcare as a drag or an item to check off the “to-do list”. Rather, I see childcare as an opportunity to be a positive role model to a young/developing human being. I aspire to always be that positive role model that children need. I intend on continuing my interactions with children in the future, as I want to be a pediatric nurse. I see this as a role that never has to end, and I plan on taking every opportunity that I can get!
