My name is Lily Johnson and I graduated from San Diego State May 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with a focus in literacy and performing arts. Through the linguistics department at San Diego State I have also obtained my teaching English as a second language certification (TESL). I have worked with children since I was a freshmen in high school. I started off working at Urtiaga Childcare in Palm Springs, CA, a home childcare in which I help assisted with nap time, meals, play time and even developing curriculum to help get the children ready for kindergarten. Meanwhile, I volunteered at Northgate Church in Palm Springs, CA, where I assisted the children’s ministry director in writing plays, planning lessons and supervising children during Sunday school. Through the Liberal Studies program I obtained over 200 hours of volunteering in a classroom setting including teaching physical education, leading opening circles, developing curriculum and tutoring English language learners. My passion for teaching children has grown more over the years and I decided I wanted to expand my horizons and focused my ambition into one of helping others, that are not as fortunate. It is undeniable that there are inequalities in the world and dismantling these inequalities starts with our education system. I want to accomplish my dream of being a teacher and changing the lives of others so I believe this would be the perfect job for me. Given my education, experiences and passion of children and teaching I believe I would be a great asset to your family.
