During high school and some of college, I started working at Alameda Arts, an after-school program that focuses on the development of children's cognitive capabilities through art. This job involved helping set up art projects, monitoring the classroom, and solving problems that occurred. By forming relationships with the children and parents, I gained valuable insight regarding effective communication skills with children and parents. Throughout high school, I would babysit for numerous families. This allowed me to expand my knowledge of childcare and learn how to create a comfortable environment for children while their parents are gone. For two years I volunteered at the Oakland Zoo as an explainer, where I educated visitors regarding the different animal exhibits. To make this activity more engaging I often set up informational activities for kids. For one year I worked at Bay Island Gymnastics as a birthday party instructor and summer camp counselor. I Read more taught gymnastics and facilitating arts activities. I recently graduated from University of Santa Barbara California with a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies with an emphasis in sustainable urban development. I currently work as a Research Assistant at a consulting firm that works within the Child Welfare System.
