Meet Catherine

  • Comfortable with pets

I recently moved here from San Francisco, CA with my fiancé with my two cats. Last spring, I received my Masters in Education and had been a teacher for kindergarten and first grade the last four years. I love North Carolina so far and I am really looking forward to the change of the seasons. I enjoy being outdoors and exploring nature; seeing what little critters we can find, science lessons we can learn and what adventures can be had. One subject I love teaching is reading and story time is a great way to explore new books and different subjects. I have amassed quite a few children's books from the beloved Moe Willems (Pigeon, Gerald and Piggy) to Andre Betty (Sofia Valdez Future Prez, Ada Twist Scientist) and more authors and variety of stories. I would love to share my books with the kids. I have experience with bath Read more time, brushing teeth, preparing dinner or other meals. I have my own car and feel comfortable driving the kids to parks or anywhere where they want to go or need to go. In my classroom, I have become an enthusiast on arts and crafts, especially holiday themed crafts. As for managing children and behavior challenges, I am used to teaching and caring for a classroom of 15-23 students, with all sorts of behaviorial issues that stem from friendship/sibling issues, separation anxiety from parents/family members, to managing big feelings. I have experience in helping kids learn the vocabulary to the feelings they are experiencing and ways to help cope when they are having "hard to have feelings," such as being angry, sad, frustrated or disappointed. My students over the years have said that I give really good hugs and know how to listen to them. I make learning fun and can be quite silly. That is all true, as I always bring my nurturing side out when taking care of kids and love to give hugs and soothing words when needed. I adore working with kids and find the work extremely fulfilling and rewarding.
