Hello, my name is Meryem and I'm a UCSC psychology student. I have experience taking care of elderly people with dementia. In high school, I cared for my grandmother by providing her with companionship, monitoring her medication, cooking meals, as well as helping her with various mobile tasks. The experience of providing care for my grandmother made me appreciate the love and dedication she showed to me as a child. Recently, I've applied my compassionate attitude towards caring for children. Over winter break, I had taken care of a two year old girl for a brief amount of time. I enjoyed attending to the needs of this child and providing her with a supportive, empathetic role model. I still remain in contact with this family and the little girl I cared for asks to call me on a regular basis because she misses me. I consider myself to be a very responsible person, which is shown through maintaining a GPA of 3.8, as well as interning at an on campus resource center. Additionally, this past fall I interned at the Survivors Healing Center, which helps heal adult survivors of child sexual abuse. They work to prevent child sexual abuse and strive to educate the community on how to raise children to have autonomy. This internship not only educated me on c.s.a. but also encouraged me to work more with children and demonstrate autonomy to them. I look forward to helping out parents/care takers with their daily tasks, as well as caring for their children.
