I am a mom of four great kids (three boys and one girl who are now 24, 20, 17, and 14) and a grandmother of two adorable granddaughters (ages 2 and 4 months). I am a military veteran. I have been a stay-at-home mom for the past 17 years. During that time I babysat for pay (two years) and to help friends out (two years). I have also volunteered during that time for various programs, all of which included children. Some of these are: Girl Scout Leader for one troop (three years); Girl Scout Leader for three troops (one year); Cub Scout Leader (five years); Assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts (eight years); teaching children ages 5-11 at church (six years), teaching children ages 3-4 at church (three years), teaching children ages 9-11 at church (two years), teaching children 8-12 at church (one year), assisting teachers at church for ages 5-8 Read more (three years), greeter for my church's children's program (four years), teacher's aide in various classrooms at a Charter school (nine years), receptionist/secretary at my neighborhood elementary school (three years). Currently, I am still an assistant Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts (ages 10-17), a greeter for my church's children's program (ages 2-18 years), a teacher at my church (ages 3-4), and the adult in charge of a weekly children's program at my church (ages 2-12 years). I am certified in First Aid, Adult and Child CPR & AED through the National Safety Council (NSC). My certification expires May 03, 2016. My belief is that children are more capable of doing and learning things than most adults give them credit for. I believe that children and young adults learn through hands-on experiences (walking in the park or feeling snow or building something), reading (either on their own or being read to), and by watching and listening to adults around them. This is why I am very careful about the words I use (no put-downs, mean, or otherwise unkind words). I also do my very best to keep my actions in line with what I say I am (a Christian). I truly enjoy being with children and young adults. Each one is unique and different in their own way. I know. I'm a mom of four very interesting and unique individuals whom I love very much. Besides caring for children and helping them with homework if needed, I am happy to do light housekeeping such as dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, laundry, snacks, and cooking.
