I have lots of experience watching teenagers (age 13-19) at a camp that I've worked at for 4 years, and I've been working in childcare part time at a foster care agency for three months now (watching kids from ages 1-18). I absolutely adore both of these jobs with all my heart; working with and caring for and and playing with kids gives me so much joy that it's hard to put into words. At my childcare job in particular I have gained a lot of experience caring for kids both in groups and one-on-one. Since I work for a foster care agency, a lot of the kids I get to care for have complex trauma and other mental, emotional, and developmental disabilities-- this means that cultivating an environment that is both physically and emotionally safe for every child is my number one priority when I work with kids. I Read more am a firm believer that anyone who watches kids should not just watch them; they should engage with them fully in conversation and play, while also ensuring that proper boundaries are maintained between child and adult. I wholeheartedly believe that kids are the greatest gift in the world; the second greatest is being able to care for them. My hope for my life is that I am privileged enough to receive that second gift at every opportunity :)
