Hello. My name is Jacklynn Harp. I have been working with children in various educational settings for over 9 years, and I have also had the pleasure of having my own classroom, where I worked with children who had varying strengths and needs. I hold a high value on learning and discovery in an environment that is safe and supportive. I graduated from The University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Elementary Education. During my internship I worked in different classrooms for two consecutive years, and I also served as an intern at a children's museum in Tampa, FL. After having my own classroom for a year in Utah, I decided to move to Colorado and change direction. During my teaching years, I found myself disappointed with the lack of attention on the mental and emotional health of some of the children I was working with. Read more Many children would come to school very late, with no breakfast, and fall asleep during the day. I found myself focusing a lot of my energy on trying to keep my students healthy and happy, but the curriculum and daily schedules allowed only short amounts of time for these essential things. This was disheartening, for I always try to grasp at the chance to teach my students about the real world, and show them a caring attention that didn't always fit into the time slots of the modern day elementary school schedule. Needless to say, now I am here, attempting to apply myself in a different way that allows more time for physical and emotional care, as well as more time for the small moments and conversations that make a lasting difference in the life of a child.
