If want a reliable, empathetic, fun, and safe person who has more than 30 years of real experience with children; you have found that person. I can tell you about my paid years of babysitting and caring for siblings 8 and 15 years younger than myself. I can tell you about the family that asked me to give up my IT career to live in their guest house and be their full-time nanny when I was young. I can tell you about my time working for DCF. I can tell you about my decade and a half of volunteer work with children. I can tell you about the years where I have been a safe haven to neighborhood children, even going as far as to allow a couple of them to live with me when their families were in crisis. I can tell you about my my own years as Read more a mother, to 3 now grown children, and my experiences with 2 step-children. However, a limited character text box doesn't allow for all of that. I will care for your children in the way you deem appropriate, as long as it doesn't include physical punishment. I am not willing to do that. I am not a "strict" person. I don't believe in "because I said so" mentality. I believe in explaining myself to children, as I believe that creates a basis for trust and respect. I believe when you treat children with love, compassion, and respect...you teach them to do the same. This is not to say that a child will run wild under my charge, because that isn't the case either. I am just naturally good at reasoning with children, and I have mastered the skill of patience where children are concerned long ago. Foe example, I am not bothered by 101 "why" questions, I will just keep answering. (I.e. why can't I touch the stove? Because it's hot. Why? So it can cook your food. Why? So we can feed you. Why? So you won't feel hungry. Why? Because that feeling means you need good food. Why? So your body can grow big and strong. Why? So you are healthy when you grow up. Why? So you can do lots of fun things. Why? Because everyone likes to do fun things. Why?) I could go on forever. I learned, rather accidentally, they usually forget they were playing the why game when we hit an answer they are actually interested in, then the conversation turns.
