As an employee at a skating rink, I worked with children of all ages on a regular basis. My focus with younger children included birthday party activities: teaching the basics of skating, helping with games like limbo, hokey pokey, and refereeing races. I also help set up birthday parties, served the children, and cleaned up after them. I probably have more experience with animals than I do with children, since I spent a couple of years volunteering at the St. Francis Wildlife Refuge. There I learned the importance of adhering to specific rules while using large amounts of patience. Whether I was cleaning cages or bottle feeding an injured adolescent deer, there were rules and procedures to be followed. As a baby sitter, I will incorporate all of these skills in my child care philosophy.
