Meet Maureen

If I had to describe myself in 3 words, I would say that I am: energetic, empathetic and positive. I am a very well-balanced person. I am assertive and strong, but I am mostly sweet and I love to laugh. My life experiences have sometimes been difficult, but I am stronger and smarter because of them. Following my parents divorce, I started regularly babysitting my 3 year old brother. I was only in the third grade, and I was already helping raise a young child. Some of my responsibilities included: drop offs and pick ups to school and other activities, assistance with homework, playtime/exercise, health/hygiene, light cleaning and some meal preparation. I would always make it a point to engage with my brother and not to just "watch" him. I did my best, despite our age and gender differences, to try to be a role model for him. I think Read more I did a pretty good job! He has grown up to be a successful young man with a college degree, an amazing career and most importantly, a great attitude about life. I am very proud of my brothers accomplishments. I also have 2 college degrees under my belt. Time management was the most valuable skill that I acquired from my college experience. I learned that procrastination causes unnecessary stress, being late is always unacceptable and it is important to always allow yourself extra time for all the things that could possibly go wrong (because they usually do). To help pay for college, I was also a server/bartender for over ten years. This position helped prepare me for the real world in ways that college could not. The job required me to learn how to quickly and efficiently solve problems, delegate responsibilities, provide customer service, work well as a team, maintain composure in a stressful environment, follow directions/instructions properly and also to understand people's specific wants and needs. I am very grateful for my educational and professional experiences because they have helped me become the well-rounded, professional, mature and reliable woman I am today. I am glad that I helped raise my brother and I learned so much from being his big sister. I am now living in Brooklyn. I am looking forward to meeting some new people and gaining more experience. I hope to provide the best care possible for any of the families I may connect with on this site. Thank you for taking the time to read all of this!
