Hello all, I have been an ESE teacher for 15 years. The first 7 years I worked with students who are deaf/hard of hearing and for the last 8 years I have worked with students who are not only deaf or hard of hearing, but also have other exceptionalities. My current students besides having a hearing loss also have vision loss and other medical needs as well such as respiratory issues. I have students who are fed through G tube, students who are still in diapers, students who are working below their grade level and students who have no language and/or no communication and difficulties in expressing their needs and wants. The focus of my classroom is and has always been increasing language and communication skills, self help skills and as well as living daily skills. In the past, I worked with an organization where I would go into the Read more homes and teach families with deaf children sign language and how to read to them. During the summers I work at a camp with students who are struggling with their reading. I am tri-lingual...I speak English and Spanish and I also know sign language.
