I love being a sitter because working with kids has always been my passion. For the past several years, I’ve spent my summers working full-time in childcare, and I’ve built long-term relationships with the same group of kids as they’ve grown up. I have five years of full-time summer experience working as a counselor and lead counselor for children ages 4–13. For two years, I worked as a specialized counselor for a group of 5-year-old girls, handling everything from daily routines to emotional regulation, safety, conflict mediation, and creating fun activities. For the past few summers, I’ve worked with the same group of older kids (I started with them when they were 9, and somehow they're gonna be 12 this year), eventually becoming their lead counselor. Because of my camp and volunteer work, I’m extremely comfortable handling both the practical and emotional sides of childcare. Practically, I’m used to supervising Read more large groups, doing constant headcounts, managing transitions (meals, bathroom, swim, pickups), keeping kids safe around water, and running activities while still watching everyone. Emotionally, I’m skilled at noticing when a child is off, helping them regulate, talking them through big feelings, and making sure no one feels left out or overwhelmed. Because of my childcare background, I’m extremely confident in: - Managing multiple kids at once - Staying calm and organized in busy environments - Helping kids regulate big emotions or anxiety - Supporting children during tantrums or meltdowns - Mediating disagreements and creating harmony - Designing fun, age-appropriate, screen-free activities - Keeping routines consistent (dinner, bath, bedtime, etc.) - Keeping children safe during transitions and outdoor activities - Reading emotional cues quickly and responding supportively I’ve also mentored younger children in early literacy and worked one-on-one with kids who need extra emotional support.
