I'm happiest when I'm helping people, as cliche as that may sound. Growing up, my favorite thing to do was take care of my younger cousins and help out with every new baby in the family. When I was 17, I started my first weekly care taking job. Every Tuesday and Friday I would go to Lizzie's house after school and take care of her for several hours. Lizzie was 15 years old and was still in the 5th grade. Due to not receiving enough oxygen at birth, she was born with some developmental issues, thus setting her back a few years scholastically and socially. I helped Lizzie with all of her homework, meals, and bedtime routine. The following year, I began working for a family, the Bradys. The youngest son was only a year old when I started looking after them, and his siblings were 4 and 6. After Read more almost three years, I'm still lucky enough to work with their beautiful family of three children, on call when they need a sitter. Domestically, my fiance and I rent a room from his 80 year old great aunt. I take care of her daily by helping her with anything and everything she needs. I help her get around, I go to every doctor's appointment that I can with her, I cook her meals, walk her two dogs, spend time with her, etc. Care taking is a very big (and quite possibly the most important) part of my life.
