Kya Horn is a specialized infant caregiver with 5 years of experience in childcare. While her full-time position is with infants, Kya has experience with children of all ages from her time as an afterschool program assistant before starting her nanny career. Kya follows a gentle authoritative approach when caring for littles; a healthy mix of fun while adhering to current childcare best practices! She is DCF-trained as a childcare professional and has continued to seek further childcare education credits to expand her knowledge to better serve the families she works with. Kya completed a Basic Newborn Care Specialist class through Newborn Care Solutions in 2022. She most recently completed an American Sign Language 101 course through Queer ASL to expand her Baby Sign Language skills. Additionally, Kya frequently attends "Grow with us week by week" webinars/blog posts hosted by Newborn Care Specialists. Class titles attended include "RealTalk: The Importance Read more of Play," "RealTalk: Flexible Nanny Plans," & "RealTalk: Baby-Led Weaning." Kya has always believed that children are the sacred among us, and fostering their growth through collaboration with parents is a deep passion for her. Kya frequently babysat as a teenager which first sparked her interest in caring for children. She has continued to babysit in her free time, working casual date nights and events. She loves to be creative outside of her career, so it is common for Kya to bring her ukulele and lots of arts & crafts supplies to keep littles entertained through the arts! Kya prides herself on her flexibility and her ability to remain calm, cool, and collected through any challenge that may come her way. In her free time, Kya is a singer/songwriter and loves to share her music with her family, friends, and the community. She is an active member of her community, volunteering on weekends and attending community-building events both in Tampa and St Pete. Kya loves to read historical nonfiction, folklore, and sci-fi books. Additionally, she maintains a daily yoga practice to center mindfulness and peace in her life. She lives with her wife, Chelsea, and their cat, Samuel Eugene George V in Seminole Heights. She is looking forward to meeting you and your littles!
