Hello! My name is Amoni Thompson and I recently graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Spelman College with a BA in Comparative Women's Studies and Creative Writing. I currently work as an afterschool teacher at the Andrew P. Stewart Center in the Pittsburgh community of Atlanta, GA. I provide afterschool care for children K-5. I teach weekly enrichment activities for elementary school aged children in 3rd-5th grade .I focus on creative arts, literacy, social justice, character building, and science activities. I am also responsible for providing a daily healthy snack for children,. In addition, I also do work in nonprofit management where I provide resources and assistance to women and girls. I have experience in working with children in family violence centers, tutoring at my local 4H club, and babysitting children between the ages of 5-15 for families in my local community. While assisting mothers who are Read more transitioning from abusive and violent homes, I have been able to care for brilliant and resilient children who have brought so much joy to the work that I do. I currently work part-time as a research intern for a nonprofit organization called Women Engaged, a Georgia based nonprofit that ensures Black women and girls, LGBTQ and ally young people of color receive first-rate comprehensive training in movement building, grassroots organizing, fundraising, and political advocacy in order to gain power to make justice-centered change. Our work focuses on reproductive justice and empowering folks of color through voter engagement initiatives. I hope to gain the experience and knowledge necessary to executively direct my own nonprofit that promotes spiritual and emotional wellness for mothers and children who have experienced trauma. As I complete my gap year working with Women Engaged, I will be applying for graduate school for Fall 2016. I am interested in part-time babysitting jobs for children between the ages of 4-12. I am highly flexible with hours and days. I can also provide references upon request.
