I started babysitting at 13 years old. I was babysitting for family members and family friends. Babysitting was not a job to me because I often babysat many of my little cousins. I had no idea I was preparing myself for a real job. My first paid job was at 14 years old for a friend of my mom’s. It was different because I felt the expectations were higher. Being responsible for someone’s life was scary but also an honor. I still hold myself and the care that I provide to those expectations today.
