I originally started babysitting because I was young and had no other way to make money. However, after many years of experience, I have fallen in love with babysitting. This love developed from growing deep, meaningful relationships with the children in your care. Having begun babysitting at the early age of 14, I have gained a wide perspective and extensive understanding of caring for children. The key to babysitting, at least in my opinion, is treating the children like your friend in order to establish a trusting relationship. This equality between babysitter and child allows for the exchange of respect, understanding, and growth, in turn making it much easier for the babysitter to reinforce rules. The dissolving of a power dynamic allows for the rise of a healthy relationship and gives me as a babysitter an advantage. Just as the approach to taking care of children is key, the reaction Read more we have once meeting the child is just as important. Every single child you meet will be different from the next, it's how humans are. This means that with every new child in your care, comes new ways of understanding and reacting to how they behave. As a child myself I was into both athletics and art. For my babysitters, this could cause whiplash for they would never know if I'd want to play outside for five hours or if I'd want to lock myself in my room and color until I ran out of crayons. Either way, the successful babysitters I had would recognize that on any given day, I could take the world on in artistic or athletic ways. It was their job to understand I needed both to be content. Raising children is never an easy task. And the old saying, "it takes a village to raise a child" is based entirely in truth. When parents cannot be there to watch their children, they must seek out help. Which is where babysitters come in. It is their responsibility to not only be loving and caring for the children but also understanding that parents are in need of their help. This is the third key to being a successful babysitter. After having taken care of some many children over a large part of my life, I have learned from both my failures and successes. Child care is not an easy task nor is it for everyone. This is why I fully believe in myself as a babysitter, for I am not doing this just to make money but because it is something that I genuinely love and get enjoyment from.
