Aloha my name is Madelann Mejia and I am 22 years old. I absolutely love working with children and have been babysitting for family and friends over the past 10 years. I am currently a student at Kapiolani Community College as a Natural Science major and intend to graduate at the end of this semester. After earning my associates degree, I intend to go back to school to earn my bachelors degree and eventually fulfill my dream of becoming a pediatric healthcare worker. For the past 3 years I have been working as a Recreation Attendant at the Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club. As a Recreation Attendant, I work with children all day long teaching them different crafts and doing different activities. I have experience babysitting children from as young as 6 months old all the way up to 13 years old. I also have experience with children who are autistic. Read more My younger cousin was born austistic and I would watch over him and his brother frequently throughout middle school and high school. Additionally, I would babysit for my Aunty from time to time. My Aunty has 3 loving children ages 14,11 and 9. Two of them are girls and 1 a boy. Lastly, I also would babysit for a really good family friend from church. They have 3 beautiful boys ages 5,3 and 1. I have been there since day 1 for each of these boys and watching them grow up was definitely a privilege for me. Over the years I spent babysitting, I have grown to learn that I work really well with children and that is why I decided to pursue a career in pediatrics. My dream has always been to work in the medical field and my greatest strength, as my family and friends would say, is working with children. It will be such a blessing to combine both my dream and strength and that is why I am working hard to become a pediatric healthcare worker.
