Just over 3 years ago I left my job as a Swim instructor l/ site director for a swim school to be a full time stay at home mother. I started babysitting at a young age, mainly for family and working in the church nursery, my first paid babysitting job was at 14 for my neighbor. After I graduated HS and traveled the world I was a nanny for several years, working with a wide variety of families, sometimes 2 or 3 at a time (I was single and could work a million hours a week) from twins to special needs, mostly sibling groups, although I babysat a few only children. I worked as a swim instructor for babies 4mo- adults, writing most of the curriculum and doing a lot of the training for new staff. During my 5.5yrs as a swim instructor I taught both group and private lessons Read more and was the first instructor to teach special needs children. Whether it was a child who was hard of hearing, or who was on the Autism spectrum or just needed individualized attention, no child was ever turned away. Working with children is what I have always loved and as hard as it was for me to walk away from that career, I've had the amazing experience of being with my daughter full time, which has been the greatest gift!
