Hello! My name is Hattie and I graduated this Winter from DePaul University with a BA in African and Black Diaspora Studies and minors in Psychology and French Studies. I find joy in taking care of others and I believe babysitting is well suited to my abilities and person hood. Having always bonded well with kids, perhaps because I understand their creative minds and sensitive hearts so well, I started babysitting as early as 7th grade. I have babysat on and off for different families since then. This year I occasionally babysat for a four year old boy where my responsibilities were to play with him, make him dinner, supervise bath time, and put him to bed, after reading few story books! :) I also occasionally watch twin girls age 12, one of whom has severe autism. Working with these twin girls has deepened my understanding of how to better Read more accommodate children with special needs. I also previously had some prior experience working with those with special needs as a peer buddy in high school working with severely handicapped adolescents during their gym period for two years consecutively. I also volunteered an after-school program for three years consecutively dedicated to helping kids with reading, math, and writing. The students come from diverse backgrounds and I enjoy the cultural enrichment that naturally comes from working with them! I've worked one-on-one and in group settings with students ages 5-12. I have experience working with older children as well. In 2015 I studied abroad in Paris, France and had the amazing opportunity to be an English Instructor at a French middle school. I independently taught lessons related to American culture to diverse groups of students ages 12-14 and I loved every minute of it! I still keep in touch with some of my students today. I believe I have an equal balance of working with children in a classroom setting as well as a home setting. Many of the skills I've gained, such as organization, patience, listening, discipline, conflict resolution, and communication can be applied to any care providing environment. I'm confident that my naturally warm, empathetic, and friendly personality, combined with my motivation make me a well-suited care provider for children of all ages.
