Most recently, I have done volunteer tutoring for children and adolescents at 826Chi, a non-for-profit that focuses on educational enrichment, particularly in the areas of reading and writing.I have volunteered with this organization since Fall of 2014. This year, I have also presented as an artist and facilitated workshops to youth aged 11-15 at the Chicago Public Library, at various locations. My work experience with children in personal daycare begain1 1999 and to continued until 2006. At this point I was in junior high and high school and was called a "babysitter", for family's in my neighborhood. I looked after between one and four children at a time. From 2009-2010 I worked with Chicago Youth Outreach Services as volunteer art's coordinator for girls in junior high. I arranged art projects for the girls to participate in after their school day. From 2012-2013, I became a part-time employee at the Jewish Read more Community Centers in Lakeview in Chicago. Here, I worked as an assistant to teachers in classrooms with children ranging from 6 months to 6 years, depending on the need for the day. In one of the classrooms I assisted in at the Jewish Community Center, there was one male child who had just been diagnosed as having Asperger's Syndrome. At this point in the child's life, the indicators included limited eye contact with adult's and peers, as well as excessive shyness and embarrassment. I did not work regularly with this child, only on certain days that were needed. In 2008, I was a nanny for a ten year old child who is on the autistic spectrum for the first part of a school calendar year. I was responsible for looking after him and his three other siblings, who are all my relatives. I picked them up from school, accompanied them to after-school activities, prepared food for them, helped them with their homework, etc. On occasion, I met with the autistic cousin's teacher, as she knew I was in close communication with his parents. The parents and I discussed their objectives for the child's growth, which included respecting personal space of his peers and teachers, and monitoring interruption. I don not work currently in the child care sector. I have been working as a Patient Care Representative for many years at a OB/GYN practice. Here, I get visits from plenty children and babies while their mommies and daddies come in for visits. As well, I am very much involved in the lives of my niece (1yr) and nephew (10), and have been since they were born!
