Meet Mirely

I adore children, I feel as if they bring the inner child out everyone and are the sole reason adults are able to stay young at heart. As a big sister of two younger siblings I had been given the opportunity to start babysitting at a young age. I have always been involved with children whether through volunteer work or babysitting. Starting in 2013 I participated in Chase Your Dreams “Discovering Health Care Careers” Lurie Children’s hospital, from 2014 to 2016 I had mentored and taught health and fitness to third graders for two years at Brown Elementary. Sadly the program had been brought to an end. Eager to continue mentoring children, this upcoming spring I will be taking part in UIC children’s Health Wellness Academy in which I will create and teach nutrition and movement lessons and activities to elementary students. I also plan to continue to volunteer at Read more Ronald McDonald house with my sorority in which I have participated in since 2015. During our visits we play and do activities with the children and try to make them as comfortable as possible. Why all the involvement with children you may ask. Well, I truly have a passion for caring for others especially young lives. I am perusing a degree in Kinesiology in hopes of becoming and Occupational Therapist for pediatrics. I have been involved in caring for children as long as I can remember ranging from newborns to 13 year olds. I believe I am a good caretaker because I know how to approach children and how to make them feel comfortable with me. It’s just a matter of having fun with them and trying to keep them engaged. Whether during playtime or during homework: there is always a way to make something fun and interesting. I am also a believer of morals. If a lesson is to be learned through a child’s action I make sure that they understand what they did right or wrong. I don’t not scold children rather I ask what they think they did wrong and try to teach them how to think about their effects of their actions. In regards to safety I am certified in CPR and AED through the American Heart Association.
