Ever since I was a young child myself I have been interested in and drawn to other kids my age and younger. I grew up attending Martin Luther Junior Laboratory Experimental School, our school was a magnet school that had an incredible special ed program and already by the first grade I spent most of my recess and lunch time inside working with these students. Although I had little to no actual knowledge or skill I was able to offer company and compassion, something that has stuck with me in later years to come. I have a passion towards kids that has helped to sculpt me academically, professionally and personally. The thing I find myself saying so often is how I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life working and helping children. After acknowledging this love and passion in myself I have grown up babysitting and overseeing day Read more care as well as using my days off visiting my mother in her classroom and assisting her with a daily routine. For my past few summers I have held jobs that include camp counseling, child day care, ABC Booster programs, and nannying. Something I've more recently gotten involved with through my school is called "Sallie House". In this volunteer club myself and approximately 15 other likeminded peers of mine join together every Sunday and visit a local foster home for several hours where we just get to enjoy and appreciate the company that is being around young children. Although the situation is sad, we are able to make the best of it and I have found it to be something I am constantly looking forward to. This past summer I embarked on a trip to Israel where I taught children ages 3-7 English. After having grown up and identified as Jewish I feel a very strong connection to my heritage in Israel. With many years studying the Hebrew language both growing up in Hebrew school and classes at ETHS I was able to use these skills to contribute to the adolescents of Israel. Although being away from home for so long was difficult I believe I have grown in many ways I never imagined possible. Along with teaching I also volunteered once a week with a close friend of mine that works with Ethiopian refugees, mostly aged from 0-5. My summer has been filled with great loss but also great triumph. While I am home for this next year I hope I can continue to make new connections through child care.
